Parthenon Forum XV - Day 1 Continued
The evening of Day 1 found us at Mt. Vernon, George Washington's estate, for a tour and dinner. As we were met and greeted by the Executive Leadership team, Katharina and I made a bee line for the dinner tent. We were starved! We didn't have time during our layover in Phoenix to get anything to eat and the fruit and cheese plate on the plane had long since worn off. On the Potomac River side of the home a large tent had been erected for dinner. Did I say large? Suffice it to say there was enough room for the two of us and our 1000 closest friends to have dinner together. And what a meal we had - fried chicken, kielbasa, BBQ pulled pork, hotdogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, coleslaw with blue cheese (Yumm!), cucumber and tomato salad - a real americana feast. Following our meal we toured the home and the grounds - what a beautiful place, and it was so nice to be greeted by George and Martha themselves. Something tells me though they were really impostors. I should've asked George though since he cannot tell a lie. The rumor going around was there was to be fireworks. No fireworks, however the moon was a beautifully glowing, golden orb hanging just over the water while the crickets serenaded us. What a great way to start what promises to be a wonderful event!
